Latilda Conyers was born and raised in the Bayou State of Louisiana, a place known for its genuine Creole and Cajun culture, and a vast array of some of the best foods in the South. River Sutaria (formerly known as Jharna) is a spoken-word performer and creative writer. They were introduced to slam poetry during their freshman year of high school and have been sharpening their craft ever since. River’s writing style, heavily influenced by Blythe Baird, Sarah Dessen, Amber Smith, and Carmen Maria Machado, is a kaleidoscope of haunting confessions, vivid imagery, and poetic metaphors. It is through sharing their intimate pieces of work that the twenty-four-year-old poet encourages others to use their voice. River’s personal ties to mental health, sexual assault, and transphobia have led them to creatively advocate for the various social issues that they survived.

I live in New York City and write books for kids of all ages (including adults)! Most of my work is in picture books, though I have longer works (novels) in progress. I tend to write on the themes of nature, family and culture stemming from my life experiences.

My soul was brewed in the witchy, marsh-like woods of Traverse City Michigan. I consider myself a story-teller above all, something I rightfully inherited from my family. The front street writers program and a brief publishing internship helped me discover where I want to exist within the literary world, surrounded by readers like me, who value compelling characters and escapism above all.

I’m a horror author and write a lot about ghosts, monsters, magic, and the human condition. A lot of my stories deal with themes of grief and belonging. I’ve loved storytelling since I was a kid, often scaring myself with my own imagination.I self published my first book last year and am currently editing my second.
