Dabble is AI-free
You wrote it. Every word. That should go without saying, but lately it doesn’t.
Plenty of writing apps now keep an AI parked in the margin, ready to finish your sentence or “polish” your paragraph. Dabble doesn’t. There’s no bot in here waiting to write for you.
This page covers what AI-free means in Dabble, why we built it that way, and the one place where your device reads your own words back to you.
We’ll cover:
- What “AI-free” means in Dabble: the short version of what isn’t here
- Why we built Dabble this way: the craft reason and the privacy reason
- The tools Dabble does give you: real help that never writes for you
- The one exception: Read to Me voices: where your device’s voices come in
What “AI-free” means in Dabble
Section titled “What “AI-free” means in Dabble”Dabble will never put words on the page for you.
No chatbot. No “write this scene for me.” No AI rewriting or summarizing your prose. No autocomplete finishing your sentences before you get there.
Open a blank page in Dabble and what fills it comes from you. That’s the whole idea.
This is a deliberate choice, and it’s one we intend to keep.
Why we built Dabble this way
Section titled “Why we built Dabble this way”Writing a novel is a craft, and the craft is the point.
The hunt for the right word. The slow discovery of what your characters actually want. The voice that turns, page by page, into unmistakably yours. Those aren’t problems to automate away. They’re the work.
Dabble is built to support that work, not to do it for you.
There’s a privacy payoff, too. Your writing is never sent to a generative model, so it can’t be processed by one and it can’t be used to train one. Your manuscript stays yours, and it stays private.
The tools Dabble does give you
Section titled “The tools Dabble does give you”Dabble is full of features that help you write better. They work on structure and mechanics, never on generating prose. Not one of them writes for you.
- Spell Check flags misspelled words so you can fix them. It suggests corrections from a dictionary. It does not rewrite your sentences.
- Grammar (a premium feature) underlines grammar and style issues and offers suggestions you choose to accept or ignore. The checking runs on an established grammar engine, not a generative AI that drafts new text for you.
- The Plot Grid, Story Notes, goals, and the writing Timer help you organize, track, and pace your work. They never produce story content.
For more on how the checker works, see Spelling and grammar checking.
The one exception: Read to Me voices
Section titled “The one exception: Read to Me voices”Dabble’s Read to Me feature reads your manuscript aloud so you can catch awkward phrasing by ear. A clumsy line is easier to hear than to see.
To turn text into speech, it uses the synthesized voices built into your own browser and operating system. Those voices come from your device, not generated or hosted by Dabble, and the words being read are always your own.
Read to Me does not change, rewrite, or add to your text. It only reads back what you wrote.
