Why Dabble is a subscription
Remember buying software the old way? A disc, a serial number, yours forever. Then a new laptop showed up and “forever” quietly expired.
So when Dabble bills you every month or every year instead of once, it’s fair to ask why.
Here’s the short version. Dabble isn’t a program that sits on your hard drive. It’s a living service that keeps your book safe, synced, and getting better.
We’ll cover:
- A subscription funds the cloud, not just the app: the services running behind your editor
- It keeps Dabble improving: why new features just show up
- What your plan includes: features, cloud, and how to pay
- No AI, on purpose: where your money does and doesn’t go
A subscription funds the cloud, not just the app
Section titled “A subscription funds the cloud, not just the app”The editor you type in is the part you see. It isn’t the part that keeps your work alive.
Behind every sentence, a set of services runs around the clock:
- Cloud Backup and Cloud Sync keep your manuscript safe and identical across web, desktop, and mobile. Start a scene on your laptop, finish it on your phone, lose nothing.
- Co-authoring, Comments, and sharing let you write with a partner or hand a draft to a beta reader or writing group.
- Goals & Stats, Versioning, and the rest of your tools live on servers that store, sync, and protect your work day and night.
Servers cost money to run. Your subscription is what pays for them, so your writing stays backed up and in sync for as long as you keep writing.
It keeps Dabble improving
Section titled “It keeps Dabble improving”Buy software once, and new features tend to arrive only in the next paid version. The copy you own quietly falls behind.
Dabble doesn’t work that way. Improvements ship the moment they’re ready, and they land in your account automatically. No upgrade fee, no “Dabble 4.0” box to buy.
The subscription model keeps Dabble sustainable, too. A steady subscription lets a small team keep building, fixing, and supporting the app for the long haul instead of chasing one-time sales.
What your plan includes
Section titled “What your plan includes”Your plan unlocks Dabble’s features and the cloud services behind them.
You can pay Monthly or Annually, and annual billing saves roughly 20%.
Plans and prices come from Dabble’s pricing page, which is always the current source of truth, so we don’t restate them here. To see what’s on offer today, visit the Dabble pricing page.
No AI, on purpose
Section titled “No AI, on purpose”A subscription doesn’t mean Dabble bolts on whatever’s trendy.
Dabble is AI-free, and it intends to stay that way. Your subscription funds the writing tools and cloud services above, not generative AI features. The one exception is the text-to-speech voice that powers Read to Me.
